RE: Gallup, NM to Albany, NY

We just drove the I-44 route (going the other way) and found it to be a decent road. Whatever you do, don't take I-40 through downtown Oklahoma City. It's bad enough in only a car, let alone towing something. I would take I-70 to Columbus and then take I-71 to Cleveland. Then get on I-90. It's probably shorter than heading into PA then up to I-90.

RE: Grand Canyon-Zion- Back East Route

That's the route we took on our recent trip to get to the Zion area from the Grand Canyon area. Good roads all the way. The only significant hills are both going downhill. First, just north of Flagstaff. Second, coming into Virgin, UT. Coming back, you could go up I-15 to I-70. Then head east. That's probably the easiest.

RE: Erie PA. to Boston

Just did the Erie to Binghamton stretch 2 weeks ago. The section from the NY/PA border to Chatauqua Lake is rough. One or two stretches of construction. No major slowdowns. There are a couple of other sections of I-86 that are on the rough side. NY17 is pretty good. I can't comment on I-88 as I haven't been up that way in 2 years.

RE: Rapid City to Niagara Falls - By pass Chicago

We recently travelled I-80 around the south side of Chicago, and didn't find it that bad. We went through that area about 2:00-3:00 on a Wednesday afternoon. On our 8000 mile trip, we found the I-15 stretch from Provo to Salt Lake City to be far busier.

RE: TT Suspensions

Our old PU had a torsion axle on it. Our current TT does as well. I wouldn't consider either to be "high-end". They were/are very smooth riding.

RE: towing with chrysler concorde

A couple of years ago I saw a Concorde towing a 27-28 ft Airstream down the road. I couldn't believe it. It must of had the bigger engine. :)

Parking Lot Follies

Who has gotten stuck (or nearly stuck) in a parking lot with your RV? On a recent trip I turned into a parking lot only to see a small sign that said "Small Lot, No RVs, Trucks, or Trailers". Of course by the time I see it, the TT is halfway in. At this point, I can either proceed into the lot and take my chances, or try backing the TT out onto a busy road. Well, I went into the lot and proceeded to turn around. After about 10 minutes of back and forth manuvering, I finally got turned around. For a while I thought I was going to unhook the TT to get the TV turned to a better angle.

RE: Our cross country follies.....(long) UPDATE

Wow! Your trip was far more interesting than our 32 day trip. We only had two things go wrong. #1, after driving through a Texas downpour, I discovered that a previous roof repair had come undone and left about a 2" opening along the front edge of the roof. Fixed at the next campground. #2, the exterior flap on the range vent broke somewhere in SD. Added to my "to do" list after getting home. I guess we should consider ourselves lucky! The only real excitement happened the time I forgot to block the TT wheels and the TT almost rolled down into the woods with me hanging on to the tongue jack trying to stop it. Fortunately, it stopped 5 ft short of a tree.

RE: Maxxis tires??

I just put a set of 4 on our TT. Drove about 6000 miles with them. No issues and hardly any treadwear. Maxxis also has a 4 year warranty. Most others are no more than 2.

RE: I-90 S. Dakota to Illinois

We just travelled I-90 from Bozeman, MT to I-35 in MN, then again from Fremont, IN to I-86 in NY. Compared to NY roads, we didn't think it was that bad. I guess we're used to pounding our way across I-86. There was some construction in SD, but the traffic never stopped moving, unlike the construction on I-90 near Erie, PA. That was backed up for 3-4 miles.

Found Old Style States Visited Maps

For those that might be in the Sheriden WY area, the KOA there has a bunch of the old style states visited maps. I grabbed one when we were there the other day.

Devil's Tower RV Parking

We're considering stopping at Devil's Tower on our way from Yellowstone to the Black Hills versus driving the TV back from the Black Hills. How is the RV parking at Devil's Tower?

Suggested Route from Flagstaff, AZ to Cedar City, UT

We will be driving from the Flagstaff, AZ area to Cedar City, UT and are looking for a route that doesn't go through Las Vegas, Zion NP, or over UT 14. Any suggestions?

RE: First the Roof, now Side Delamination

Well, I got around to re-sealing all the vents, etc. with Dicor this afternoon. I took a closer look at the end caps. The screw strip only had about a 1/4" bead of Dicor on each side. Considering how much they put around all the vents, why did they skimp out on the end caps? I suspect that this is the cause of my problems. I also looked over the repair that was made last summer. The dealer put a couple of thin beads of Dicor over a couple of seams. Maybe about 12" worth in all. They didn't even clean the area underneath, so it peeled up quite easily. Considering they charged me $8 for a full tube of Dicor and $50 in labor, I definitely did not get my money's worth. I put Eternabond over both the front and rear end cap seams. Hopefully, that will eliminate the leaks.

RE: Toyota Tundra or Nissan Titan as Tow Vehicles

So far, I'm happy with my Titan. But, I've only towed about 300 miles. I'll have a better idea after we complete our 7000 mile trip next month. One advantage the Titan has over the Tundra, is the Crew Cab version is available with a long bed (7'-3"). When I was shopping last fall, the thing that killed the Tundra for me was the Crew Cab only had a 5'+ bed. I wanted at least 6.5'. Both are fine 1/2 ton trucks. However, the Titan is getting a bit dated (at least styling-wise). Given how slow the sales are currently, you could probably get a great deal on a Titan.

RE: Oil change on new truck

I usually change the engine oil after about 1000 miles. I also change the rear differential fluid after 500-1000 miles of towing.

RE: Roof leak and eternabond?

Etrenabond is great stuff. I use it for longer seams, such as along the end caps. For just around a vent, I would use Dicor sealant. I found the best price for Eternabond, including shipping, was from www.bigrocksupply.com. They are located in IL.

RE: Being a spotter, 101

I can understand the frustration. My DW seems to be clueless whe it comes to guiding me backing up. I've told her multiple times that all she needs to tell me how far over and how far back I need to go. Inevitably, I end up lined up with the coupler, but 3" to one side. After five years of camping, I've pretty much written her off. I either do it myself, or let my 10 yr old daughter help, she's far better at it than her mother.

RE: First the Roof, now Side Delamination

It's even worse than I suspected. I got up on a ladder to check out the side delamination and noticed that the roof in that corner and the opposite corner are both delaminated as well. I now have three spots on the roof with water damage and one spot on the side. It just goes from bad to worse. The frustrating part is I had a leak test done last summer because I suspected that there might be a leak in the right, rear corner. The dealerhip found one and supposedly fixed it. There wasn't any noticable damage at the time. Either the dealer didn't get it all fixed, or new leaks developed over the winter. I'm just too depressed to deal with it right now.

RE: I-255/I-270 Around St. Louis

We won't be hitting that area until after 6pm on a Sunday, so rush hour isn't an issue. Thanks for the responses everyone.
